Hi
I have a ‘97 VW 1.9tdi ABL engined camper van (46,000 miles) with a problem.
Starting is poor from cold and produces clouds of grey/blue smoke and it runs lumpliy/missing for a minute or two at idle. Performance and economy seem reasonable when warmed up, but revving in lower gears also produces some smoke and there is a distinct exhaust smell outside. The last MOT emissions test (2 months ago) was OK. It’s been to a local garage who say the heater plugs are OK, but the problem still persists.
Do I need a diagnostic tool to check the injectors ? Are there any other likely causes ? and Do you stock the recon injectors for this engine ?
Any advice appreciated
Julien

Same thing happened to me. Never did make heads or tails of my engine. Oh well… guess that’s why I paid some mechanic to deal with it. I’ll have to take automotive lessons in the future. Anyway, thanks for sharing! Cheers!

Mercedes C200. mileage 75000.
Have fault code reading 2575: ‘zero quantity calibration for the injector cylinder 2′.
The car has no problems starting and runs smoothly. How serious is this please?
Hi Julien,
First thing to do is get a cold compression test done, I know that you have not done great milage but with the age of the vehicle and the little work it has done perhaps the bores are glazed thus giving low compression for starting.
Next thing is to check the timing and also check if the pump has a cold start advance device.
You will need to send the injectors in for testing but at the mileage of 46,000 I do not believe that they will have a problem.
Our diesel additive Diesel Aid will help with the starting and cleaning of the fuel system, give it a try.
