Good afternoon
I’ve read the useful fault descriptions on your web site and I wonder whether you would mind sending me a reply, if at all possible.
I have a diesel Ford Focus TDCi 1.8 on an 07 plate which I purchased from a dealer 6 months ago with 60,000 miles on the clock. I’ve noticed a fault, but I’m not sure for how long the fault has existed.
The closest fault description on your website is the ‘Faulty pressure regulator – sensor,’ but my car does not exhibit all the faults.
My car accelerates very well with light to medium pressure on the pedal. However, if I accelerate hard (which sometimes you have to, or want to) the car stutters and jumps and it feels like the engine is cutting out.
I have no trouble at all with starting and there doesn’t seem to be an uneven tick (the other 2 faults under the heading ‘faulty pressure regulator – sensor’). Apart from the fault mentioned above, the car performs very well and it is a pleasure to drive.
I would be very grateful if you could let me have your opinion as to the nature of this fault.
Thanks and best regards
Andy

Hi I am 70 years young and have been driving diesel cars all my live!
What you should keep in mind, modern diesel engines with high tolerance fuel pumps and injectors need absolute fuel CLEANNINESS the slightest contamination can cost you a lot of problems and money!!
When you chance the diesel filter , empty it and look what’s in there if there is any black /brown slime in there you have bacteria in your tank ( witch will ruin your car)
You can also check the filler cap/ and when you take the injector out if it is pitted!!
You can even get this in a NEW CAR when it was stored for two/three month’s by the main dealer before it was sold!
If you have this problem SELL !!!!
Dear Andy,
At the milage you have I would not think that there is a problem with the injectors unless prior to you owning it, it has been run on petrol which will cause the fuel system to wear prematurely.
It does sound as though you have a pressure problem, perhaps the pressure regulator on the pump is faulty. You could try replacing it but it would be a matter to “trial and error”
If you want to try repaving the regulator let me know and I will get you a price of the unit.
Thanking,
Regards,
Keith.
