Nissan Primera 2_2dCi (2184cc) 2002

Hi there

I have a 02 Nissan Primera 2.2dCi (2184cc) with poor MPG and it stutters & coughs a bit while maintaining even revs in any gear.
Acceleration isn’t bad, there is no sign of any stutters when you floor it.

I’d like to try cleaning the entire fuel system somehow.
A few trusted sources have told me there’s no point in buying any type of fuel additive, that they’re pointless.
I was told to ad half a gallon of kerosene or paraffin to half a tank of diesel.

Any thoughts yourselves?

Dear Paul,

The easiest way to see if the pump is generating enough pressure is to connect a old type spring injector to the outlet of the pump or to one of the injector pipes and then when you crank the engine you see if the injector sprays. If the pump is breaking up you can possibly have a problem with the injectors as the swarf will get into the injectors and damage them.

If you are able to send the injectors to me for testing I can inspect them internally and see if there are signs of swarf present in the fuel system.

You should also try and do an injector leak off test found at
http://www.uniteddiesel.co.uk/tips_docs/Bosch%20common%20rail%20diesel%20injectors%20checking%20back%20leakage.pdf

The injector does look as if it is suffering from blow by and needs to be attended to, injector blow by will not be causing you your faults but it should be attended to, you can get advice at
http://www.uniteddiesel.co.uk/tips_docs/Bosch%20common%20rail%20diesel%20injectors%20blow-by.pdf

I hope that this helps,
Regards,
Keith

Hi,

I wonder if you could help with a problem. I have a 2004 DCI Nissan Micra. It has the following problems, it's hard to start and requires multiple cranks. It's very slow and struggles to make 60mph. Then when doing 50-60 mph the engine will cut out and die.

The mechanic has diagnosed this as fuel pump. Would this be likely?

I hope this works. Here are a couple of pictures of the engine. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4097/4915209999_572bd7d399.jpg

Does this look like injector blow back?

Thanks,
Paul

Dear Barry,

Thank you for your enquiry,

A starting point will be to try some additive to clean out and free the injectors but I am not sure that it is your problem.

I have been involved with diesel injection and diesel additives for many years and have found that most of the failures on the injection equipment is related to fuel quality, poor fuel spec, contamination or poor filtration.

As for you being told to ad half a gallon of kerosene or paraffin to half a tank of diesel, that sort of advice is great for us in the injection repair business because by doing that you have a good chance of damageing your injection equipment. These products do not have the same lubricity as of diesel and can cause premature wear.

The cleaning and protecting of your fuel systen can be done by using our Diesel Aid Fuel Treatment, this will also improve the quality of your diesel as our product increases the cetain rating of the fuel which will allow for better combustion

All the prices and info can be found on my website at http://www.uniteddiesel.co.uk/diesel-fuel-treatment.php

If you need any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanking you,
Regards,
keith

Hello
I have a Nissan XTrail 2.2 136 bhp which has the following symptoms:
At around 3000rpm the engine power does not increase it just stays static. If I release the accelerator and then accelerate the problem goes away. This is an intermitent problem. Is this something that could be helped by using any of your additive.
The car gas done 72k.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks Barry,

It's a long shot but perhaps you have an injector leaking combustion gases which will cause a problem, you can see how to check this at http://www.uniteddiesel.co.uk/tips-troubles.php and look up Injector Blow-by.
Also check that the EGR valve is clean and working then perhaps try some additive.
Good luck,

Hi Keith

Thanks for the reply.

I had trouble about a year and a half ago and my Main Dealer told me they couldn't connect to the computer. I went to a private mechanic and he couldn't connect either. The problem turned out to be a shredded Dual Mass Flywheel.

My issue at the moment isn't huge but just the fuel economy is crap and I'd like to clean out the fuel system to see if this would improve overall consumption and performance.

I did replace the air flow meter a while back but that made no difference. It was only £70-£80 n ebay so it was worth a try.

Hi Barry,

Firstly if you add kerosene or paraffin to the diesel you will cause a problem because the lubricity properties are different to that of diesel or our diesel additive, so you could cause the injection system to wear out prematurely. I do not recommend doing this.

For the price of £ 17.50 for 500ml of our diesel treatment it is worth trying it, if something is sticking in the fuel system the additive will help to free it. It will also help with the MPG.

It is always very difficult to pin point the cause of your problem as there are so many other things that are influential to the running of the vehicle. Have you had it on a diagnostic test?

Regards,
Keith
