A4 2_5 TDI 2002
Hi. I have a 2002 Audi A4 2.5 tdi. It has recently become very sluggish on accelaration and tends to put out a fair bit of black smoke when i accelarate hard. Would this simply be caused due to dirty injectors or is this a bigger problem? Is the cur smething that I ould do myself or is it a job for a mechanic?
Thanks
Ian

Hi keith
happy new year
removed whole the wiring harness from injectors which looks ok, no visible breaks/damage to any wires so will refit
have you got a guide on how to remove the injectors on a audi a4 1.9 tdi b6 ?
i tryed to remove one from cylinder 3
removed top nut & locking torx but injector still didnt move at which point i didnt go any further incase i damaged something
if refitting the wiring harness doesnt make a difference then i'll remove & send injector to you for testing
if its easier for you you can email me on AHRAB@NAZ786.PLUS.COM

Hi Bob,
I can test the injectors the price is £35.00 each, included in this price I supply a new set of seals and copper washer.
The injectors are relativly easy to remove and replace, there is a set up procedure once the injector is in place, I will send you this tomorrow but before you try to remove the injectors have a go at the plugs.
Regards,
Keith

Thanks keith really appreciate your
input
have been told by local diesel specailist that due to the design of injectors on my a4 tdi you cant test the injectors is this correct in your experience ?
i did remove the rocker cover & have a look at the harness looked ok everything covered in oil lol
will remove again try bending spades
also if i was to fit a new injector is it just matter of removing old one
replacing with new or is it more complicated ? as i was thinking of swapping injectors around to help diagnose problem
thanks again

Hi Bob,
A faulty harness/conection or injector will cause the vehicle to run uneven and have high MPG. You need to try and find out which cylinder/injector is causing you a problem. Proper diagnostic equipment would be able to do this but it will cost you money to get it done.
I think the harness comes all in one for all 4 injectors. If you can find out which cylinder it is before replacing the harness, remove the plug connecting to the injector and gently bend the spade connectors on the injector. Perhaps you are not getting a good connection, probly would not harm to do that on all the injectors before taking it for a diagnostic check.
I do not have any diagnostic equipment that I can rent you with regards to your vehicle as it is a differant system.
Good luck,
Regards,
Keith

Hi keith thanks for a quick response
so would a faulty harness cause same symptoms as i have mentioned eg lumpy idle/poor mpg ?
do i need to change the whole harness for all 4 injectors or just the one ?
thanks in advance
also do you rent diy dignostic injector kits ?
if yes how much are they & how does the process work as i need to fix this problem asap cheaply as possible ?

Hi Bob,
The problem is either, the wiring harness to the injectors, the injector it self or a problem within the cylinder/head. My sugestion is to replace the harness first, it is the cheapest option and even if you have to do any other work on the engine we would always recommend the replacment of the harness.

Hi guys
was wondering if someone could help me please
i have an audi a4 1.9 tdi b6 engine code awx 130 bhp, with 146k miles
car starts first time everytime, performance seems fine through out rev range pulls strong
problem is uneven/slight shake/missfire on idle & smokes with really bad mpg
got fault code p0303 which equals missfire detected on cylinder 3
could it be faulty injector ?

Hi Keith
Thanks for the quick response, the engine idles ok and starts perfectly fine. I have just brought a new fuel filter and plan to change it this weekend, and after your comment I will check the EGR valve ang give it a clean.
Thanks

Hi Chris,
How does the engine idle, is it smooth or uneven, does the vehicle start easily.
When last was the fuel filter changed?
Have you checked the EGR valve

Keith

Hi everyone
I have a 2005 BMW 320d that has a problem at low revs, when I have to keep the car at a steady low speed of 30mph it feels as if its running out of fuel, as soon as I press the accelerator it picks up and drives normally.
It has no problems at all if I am accelerating or at higher speeds?
I think I could have a faulty injector?
Does this sound like an injector problem?
Thanks

Dear Alan,
Your problem might not be with the pump but rather with something else within the fuel system.
Pressure loss within a common rail fuel system can often result in one or more of the following symptoms, hard or difficult starting / erratic or uneven tick over or idle / lumpy running / hesitation on acceleration / smoke on tick over or acceleration / lack of power or even a total shut down of the system. One of the main reasons for pressure loss is due to faulty diesel injectors. To conduct a Common Rail Injector Back Leakage Test go to http://www.uniteddiesel.co.uk/tips-troubles.php
You can also check if you have a pressure regulating valve on the rail.
Personaly I would check the backleakage from the injectors first.
I hope that this helps, let us know how you get on.

Keith

Hi,
I have a starting problem with my 2003 Peugeot 206 1.4 hdi, i will give you a brief history of the problem
Car would not start one evening so call the AA who said it had run out of diesel although it was showing 1/4 tank of fuel, fuel was added system primed and all was ok, next morning no start again, AA called system primed and all was fine, so it was decided that air was getting into the system so the fuel pipes were changed but now car would not start even after priming, there was no air in the system. A new fuel filter and battery were put on but still no go unless a bump start was possible or easy start was sprayed into the air intake
i was then told the diesel pump start pressure was not sufficient so a second hand pump was fitted still no go unless bumped or easy start was used i was then told that this pump was also dodgy, so do you think a reconditioned unit could fix my problem or is there something else that we are missing
Regards Alan

Hi Sean,
A leaking pump should not cause black smoke, if the system is low on fuel pressure I would have thought that you will have difficult starting and uneven running. It would be a good thing to check the EGR valve. Other things will need checking.
Air filter is clean and EGR valve is working and not stuck. I would check the EGR valve first.
Air flow meter is ok.
Turbo waste gate is not stuck.
It seems that you have an air to fuel ratio imbalance so you need to be sure that the engine is getting enough air.
I hope that this has helped and not confused you any more.
Thanks,

Keith

Hi: I have a 2003 VW Passat TDI 130 BHP. I recently had to replace the engine and have had a number of problems since. The main one is that on acceleration I get clouds of black smoke and have significantly reduced mpg. There is a leak in the fuel pum which my mechanic attempted to repair with sealant rather than replace the gasket! I took it to another mechanic who said he would need it for a week and would also need to replace the EGR valve. Could the leaky fuel pump cause low fuel pressure and be the cause of the black smoke? Would welcome your comments. Sean

Hi everyone. Just felt I had to leave a comment about the incredibly efficient and friendly service provided by this company. I contacted Keith exactly a week ago as I had serious blowback on at least one injector on my Chrysler Grand Voyager. Although it was far from a huge money making job for Keith, he posted the replacement seals/washers by first-class post and I had them the next day. My vehicle is now fixed and running well. I dread to think how I would have been treated by a main dealer if I had approached them for the same items and advice. It is a breath of fresh air in this dog-eat-dog world to find such a friendly and efficient company. I will be back for sure, and will be sure to recommend to anyone.
Best Wishes.
Dave.

Hi Ian,
You have not given me the milage but injectors do need attention at about 100000 miles. Faulty injectors will cause black smoke and a slight loss in power so it depends on the power loss you are experiancing.
Other things to check are,
One of the injectors is a sensor injector (has a wire going to it) check that the resistance is between 90 and 110 ohms.
Air filter and EGR valve are clean.
Air flow meter is ok.
Turbo waste gate is not stuck.
